The sacroiliac joint is where the upper body joins the lower body. It is the joint between the ilium (hip bone) and the sacrum. There is one on each side. There is only a very small amount of motion in these joints, but this small amount is critical for the joint to function as intended. It is a shock absorber for the spine. It is possible for this joint to become painful because or degeneration or trauma. One possible solution could be fusion of the joint. Final decision making for sacroiliac joint fusion is after extensive work up and exchange between patient and MD. The technique is also minimally invasive outpatient.
